A brave Adelaide girl, who was comforted by firefighters singing Wiggles songs after she became trapped in a backyard drain last week, has meet her idols face-to-face.
One-year-old Nayvah Walkley made national headlines last month when she fell down a drain and her foot became wedged in a pipe.
Firefighters who helped rescue the youngster kept her calm by singing songs by the world-famous children’s group.
“It’s a really special moment to meet Nayvah. Of course we heard what happened and about the incredible firefighters who have incredible taste in music singing Wiggles songs to help Nayvah get through this terrible ordeal,” Red Wiggle Simon Pryce said before the group’s performance at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre on Saturday.
“We were really touched when we heard the story. Obviously with The Wiggles, any sort of positive influence we can have on any families life is what we want to achieve, so the fact that our music could help in such a difficult time is lovely.”
Nayvah got to enjoy a private sing-a-long to her favourite song, Rock-A-Bye Your Bear, the same song that the firefighters sang while freeing her from the drain at Elizabeth East.
Metropolitan Fire Service Station officer Andy Dunt said a team of four firefighters used a shovel, screwdriver and a crowbar to move pavers and dig about one metre deep to break a pipe and free the child’s foot from an S-bend.
Mr Dunt was also at Saturday’s show and said the reunion was a very happy ending to the story.
“So many times we are called to a scene or an incident and we never find out what happened to the people we helped, so this has been a great way to celebrate,” Mr Dunt said.
Nayvah’s mother, Samantha, said the last few days, and all the media attention the story received, had been slightly overwhelming.
“I honestly never expected it to go the way it has, it’s been a lot,” Ms Walkley said.
“But Nayvah is so excited to be here at the concert today and this will be a funny memory to share with her one day in the future I’m sure,” she said.
Meanwhile, Blue Wiggle Anthony Feild had a uniquely Adelaide experience of his own, attending the Port Adelaide match at Adelaide Oval on Friday night- his first ever AFL game.
“I actually sat next to Kochie (David Koch) on the flight over to Adelaide and there was an American guy sitting near us asking about AFL and I said ‘oh I don’t know anything about it’,” Field said.
Iâm at my first @AFL game! I was sitting next to Kochie on the plane to Adelaide! I am now a @PAFC fan! Enjoying the game! Thanks Kochie! @kochie_onlinepic.twitter.com/CDBqBnTUUb

“Then Kochie piped up and invited me. The game was amazing. I am going to become a paid-up member now. It was my first ever game and I loved it.”
The Wiggles played two children’s shows in Adelaide yesterday before the original Wiggles of Field, Murray Cook, Jeff Fatt and Greg Page hit the stage last night for a special grown ups show.
