Friend and neighbour of 70 years Ashley Duffield told 7NEWS Kevin, of Hillier, was an active and fit man who walked his terrier along that road regularly.

“His wife died some years ago so the dog becomes a companion,” Mr Duffield said.

“I thought he had many many years of a healthy and enjoyable life to live.”

The dog was not injured in the crash and stayed by his owner’s side after the incident.

The 24-year-old Elizabeth Vale driver of the Ford sedan was not physically injured and is assisting police with their inquiries.
