AFL star Jeremy Finlayson's wife Kellie reveals sad cancer update

Kellie Finlayson, the wife of Port Adelaide player Jeremy Finlayson, has shared a heartbreaking update in her fight against terminal cancer.

She has remained largely quiet about her prognosis in recent months — but, on Tuesday, revealed that her cancer was growing and may require another round of chemotherapy.

Finlayson was diagnosed with stage four lung cancer last year, just months after finishing her treatment for bowel cancer, which had emerged shortly after the birth of their first child Sophia in August 2021.

The 28-year-old said she usually walked out of a meeting with her oncologist being told to “watch and wait”, but this time learned she would likely need further treatment.

“Not great news, but not the worst news either I guess. Unfortunately with cancer, especially relapsed cancer, it grows really fast,” Finlayson said in a TikTok video.

“So once we see not even quite a millimetre of growth in a scan over a couple of months we know that means it’s growing and that means we have to act on that.”

Finaylson said she would be seeing a surgeon and radiotherapist next week to determine next steps, but would potentially be starting chemotherapy again.

“I guess I’m one of the lucky ones because we know that chemotherapy works really well for me,” she said.

“But any chemotherapy is f****d and not what I want to be doing.”

The 28-year-old said she hoped opening up about her treatment would help others going through similar experiences.

“I am going to start sharing more again because I know how beneficial it can be to those who are going through their own journey, as much as I hate that word,” she said.
