Kane Cornes savaged by Tommy Sheridan as footy feud intensifies

Two past players and current media personalities have found themselves in a war of words with the latest dig taking a firey twist.

Kane Cornes roasts Harley Reid

Former AFL player turned podcaster Tommy Sheridan has escalated his feud with SA footy legend Kane Cornes, mocking his stint in the MFS and calling him out for his “memory loss” following a snide comment last week.

The feud exploded in spectacular fashion last week when Sheridan, who played 83 AFL games for Fremantle and GWS, labelled Cornes as a “dirty, stinking tagger” on his Ausmerican Aces podcast, while calling the former Port Adelaide star out on his criticism of Tim Taranto and Harley Reid.

“He was slow and he was a dirty tagger and he was just a horrific footballer to watch,” Sheridan said.

“Harley Reid will be five times better than him and I’ve had enough of his f–king comments.”

“I don’t think anyone would remember him if he wasn’t in the media.”

Cornes fired back, appearing on SEN breakfast on Friday armed with a clip of Sheridan dropping a mark in a preliminary final for Fremantle.

“When do you know life after football isn’t going that well for you? Is it when you put the person’s name into Google and the first thing that comes up is dropped mark in a final,” Cornes said.

“I’m happy to be criticised by the likes of Dane Swan. If Gary Ablett Jr wanted to have a say on my career or Sammy Mitchell wanted to have his thoughts on Simon Black. Probably not going to cop it from an 83-game park footballer whose one career highlight was dropping an absolute soda in a prelim final that cost your team the game.”

Cornes then pointed to Sheridan’s podcast not figuring high in the rankings and that he had appeared on the Armchair Experts which was axed by Channel 7.

“So for the park footballer, life’s not going that well I wouldn’t have thought,’’ Cornes said.

Now, Sheridan has fired the latest shot, appearing on his podcast on Wednesday dressed as a firefighter, in reference to Cornes’ infamous retirement from the AFL in 2015 to join the South Australian Metropolitan Fire Service.

“He must have short memory loss – because I wasn’t the only bloke that’s cost his team a final,” Sheridan said, before running a clip of Cornes giving away a costly free kick in the 2013 semi-final against Geelong.

“Kane joins a very illustrious group, myself and him.”

“Let’s just remember that we all make mistakes, that’s the beautiful thing about this game.”
