A man charged over a prescription drug haul linked to the death of another man last December has pleaded guilty to supplying a drug to another person.

Jessie Sam Anderson, 25, appeared in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Tuesday where he entered pleas of guilty to three charges, including supplying a drug police had believed was Xanax to another person on December 23 last year.

On the same day, a 22-year-old man was found dead in his Woodcroft home.

At the time, police said the two men were known to each other and that the charge of supplying a drug was “subject to further investigation in respect to the sudden death” of the Woodcroft man.

“The deceased and the arrested man are known to each other and investigators are waiting for the result of a post mortem and other forensic testing to ascertain if the death is drug related,” police said in a statement.

Police raided Anderson’s Ascot Park home, and seized what they believed was 1000 Xanax tablets and 50 LSD tablets.

Anderson also pleaded guilty to a charge of trafficking in a commercial quantity of a controlled drug and a charge of trafficking in a large commercial quantity of a controlled drug.

Prosecutors withdrew a further charge of trafficking in a commercial quantity of a controlled drug.

Xanax, also known as the generic name of alprozolam, is a benzodiazepine tranquilliser and considered a controlled drug in Australia where it can only be acquired by prescription.

Anderson appeared in court alongside Darcee Lauren Kelly, 22, also of Ascot Park, who is yet to enter pleas to one count of trafficking in a commercial quantity of a controlled drug and two counts of trafficking in a large commercial quantity of a controlled drug.

A prosecutor told the court police required a further 10 weeks to gather evidence against Ms Kelly including DNA results, a post mortem report in relation to the deceased man, e-crime extraction data from the deceased’s telephone and the homes of both Anderson and Ms Kelly.

“There are also some corroborating witness and police statements to come, footage of the arrest of the accused and the final matter is the certificate of title or rental agreement for the accused’s home,” the prosecutor said.

Anderson will next appear in the District Court in July, while Ms Kelly will next appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court in August.
