When it comes to chasing her dreams, The Advertiser’s Teen Parliament winner Jordy Harvey is aiming for the skies.

The 16-year-old from Renown Park has always dreamt of being a flight attendant and on Wednesday had the opportunity to spend the day with Qantas at Adelaide Airport.

It was an exciting afternoon for Jordy who said the experience had only made her want to become a flight attendant even more.

“I couldn’t stop thinking about it,” she said.

“I’m just so ready for it, like I’ve been ready for so long and now I’ve come here and I’m so happy.

“It’s what I want to do and I’m really thankful I got to meet people to help me get there.”

Jordy was taken under the wing of Indigenous cabin crew members Michael Williams, Alysia Weetra and Travis Peris who showed her the ropes of what a typical work day looks like - an experience she was grateful for.

“They’re very funny, very welcoming, they’re great people, ” she said.

“They absolutely love their job so I know I’m gonna love my job with them [one day] too.”

In March, Jordy was one of ten future leaders to score a $10,000 scholarship for her ideas to help young Aboriginal people access culturally appropriate education.

Now she is more determined than ever to keep chasing her goals, starting with completing her studies at Warriappendi School.

“[Winning] showed that my hard work paid off,” she said.

“I’m gonna put the work in, I’m gonna get my education and then become a flight attendant.

She also said participating in Teen Parliament had given her a new sense of confidence.

“I’m so much more confident, like I’m so down to do things and won’t turn down a good opportunity.

“It helped me so much, I would have never been here today if I didn’t go and do it and say yes.

“I’m not letting anything hold me back.”
