Icon Cancer Centre, Radiology SA and medspa to open at Eighty Eight O’Connell

A world leading cancer centre featuring advanced technology is set to open as part of a health and wellness hub at a major development in North Adelaide.

A state of the art cancer centre will form part of a multi-faceted health and wellness hub at the $300m Eighty Eight O’Connell development, with the first patients expected to walk through the doors next month.

Icon Cancer Centre’s new radiology oncology facility will be co-located at a health hub with a raft of tenants offering services including physiotherapy, pilates, cosmetic injectables and infrared sauna in what has been touted as Adelaide’s new wellness destination.

Leading radiation oncologist Michael Penniment, with Icon Cancer Centre, said the health hub will provide patients with access to treatment and rehabilitation services in one location.

“I think it’s the first time that absolutely brand new, best technology, in both radiation therapy and also in radiology diagnosis, (is) combined with wellness in the same building,” he said.

The cancer centre will feature state of the art technology including the Varian TrueBeam linear accelerator for advanced radiation techniques and the Varian Identify Surface Guidance System for treatment without need for traditional radiation marking, set to especially benefit breast cancer patients.

It will have the capacity to treat up to 500 patients a year, with the first consultations starting at the site next month before the facility officially opens in September.

Allied health services including Radiology SA and InHealth Medical Centre will complement the centre.

Other health hub tenants will include a new National Pharmacies flagship SA store, national fitness chain Change, podiatry services provider MediPedi and day spa Blue Lagoon Float and Spa.

Meanwhile, medspa Blume will offer cosmetic injectables, laser treatments, lymphatic drainage and more.

Commercial & General executive chairman Jamie McClurg said people will be able to access a large range of services from medical diagnosis to healthy ageing to wellness.

He added that InHealth will add nine new medical practitioners to the area and give “a new luxe feel to going to the doctor”.

The tenants will sit within a podium interconnected by floating stairways and beneath three towers of apartments, he said.

Mr McClurg said residents are expected to be among the first to start moving in from next month with other commercial tenants to follow.

“Probably the first tenancy that will open will be the National Pharmacies tenancy, they’re at a stage now where they’re nearly ready to go,” he said.

Mr McClurg added there was only one tenancy that hadn’t been leased, which he hoped to fill with a female fashion brand.
