More than half a million dollars in damage has been caused to a Broadview home, after a fire erupted in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Fire crews were called to Burgan St around 4.25am after the alarm was raised, and arrived to find a carport under the main roof on fire, which began spreading into the home’s roof space.
The home occupants managed to escape with their dog before firefighters arrived.
The 24 firefighters at the scene spent about 20 minutes containing the fire and another 25 minutes to ensure it was fully extinguished, along with all the hotspots, because the roof had collapsed.
Fire Cause Investigators determined the fire was caused by an electrical fault caused by rechargeable batteries, with the estimated damage bill set around $600,000.
