MOTORSPORT fans will be able to enjoy racing from the luxury of their hotel rooms courtesy of a bold new tourism concept at Tailem Bend.
Hotel giant Rydges Hotels & Resorts will build a hotel at The Bend Motorsport Park with most rooms overlooking the track.
The 100 room, four-star, Rydges Pit Lane Hotel will start taking bookings next month ready for an April 2018 opening.
The Bend Motorsport Park, Australia’s ultimate world-class motorsport development just outside of Adelaide, will play host to some of the biggest motorsport races in Australia, including Virgin Australia Supercars Championship and Shannons Nationals.
The Bend Motorsport Park developer, Peregrine Corporation’s director Sam Shahin, said the hotel will offer an experience which has never been seen in Australia, and will bring a new level of viewing and convenience for motorsport fans.
“This is truly revolutionary, not just for The Bend Motorsport Park but for SA and motorsport in Australia,” he said. “We anticipate The Bend Motorsport Park project will cost approximately $100 million, while injecting $236 million into the local economy annually and generating over 1500 jobs for the region.”
Rydges spokesman Norman Arundel said the company, that also has a hotel on the famous Mt Panorama racetrack at Bathurst, was delighted to grow its racetrack hotel footprint. “The Rydges Pit Lane Hotel will offer an unparalleled experience for motor sports enthusiasts. “They will be able to absorb the excitement of the racing action from their ... balconies overlooking the pit lane track.”
SA Tourism Industry Council chief executive Shaun de Bruyn said the hotel was a great investment. “Our state is know for delivering great motor sports events across the nation, drawing visitors from all parts of Australia,” he said.
“Continuous investment is so important for our state to create jobs in tourism in new and refreshed visitor experiences. Motorsport events draw a wide range of visitors as they are now multifaceted with so many things to see and do.”
The hotel will include 100 rooms with twin share, king rooms and suites, which will be insulated with double glazing.
The pit building will incorporate a function centre for up to 600 people overlooking the racing circuit.
