Heavy rain has left one of Adelaide’s most beloved spots covered in floating trash.
Debris, including rotting branches, and rubbish has made the surface of the River Torrens look like filthy sludge since last week’s storms.
And the clean-up could continue for days.
A spokeperson for the Adelaide City Council said they were aware of the polluted water and had enlisted a contractor with a excavator to remove the debris on Monday.
But due to the windy weather, the debris had shifted to the middle of the river.
It was hoped the debris would eventually move back to the water’s edge, so it could be cleaned by the end of the week.
