The home of the SA Amateur Soccer League will be replaced with a $6.25m two-storey clubroom allowing it to host final competitions in Grange for the first time.

Cyrill Baxter Hall, at Grange Recreation Reserve, will become a multi-purpose building with four changerooms, a medical room, canteen, umpire rooms, offices and a function space.

SAASL chief executive D’Arcy Evans said the new building would open up new opportunities for the league – made up of 81 clubs – and the community.

“We can’t play grand finals here, or special cup rounds, because the facilities aren’t appropriate,” Mr Evans said.

“There’s no real canteen or bar facilities that can cater for the amount of people, so we’re excited because this will bring us into the 21st century.

“Particularly with the growth of female soccer, the new changeroom facilities would allow us to host a club here to play and train.”

Charles Sturt Council undertook a master plan for the site in 2022 to determine future needs of users and developed a costed concept design.

The site is also home to the Grange Cricket Club, USC Lion Soccer Club and Monarchs Sports Club.

The development, expected to be finished by 2026, was being equally funded by the council and a state government grant.

The Grange Royals Hockey Club uses another building at the reserve and, according to council documents, confirmed it would remain in its existing facility.
