Grab your scarf and gloves: It’s a frosty morning across the state with temperatures below zero

Icy cold weather again hit many parts of the state on Wednesday morning, with the temperature dipping below zero in some areas. But that will change tomorrow.

The state has been hit with another frosty morning, with temperatures below zero recorded in many parts of the state.

The Bureau of Meteorology issued a frost warning for Wednesday, affecting parts of the Mid North, Riverland, Murraylands, Upper South East and Lower South East districts.

The warning forecast “frosts with temperatures down to -2C” for these regions.

The Murraylands and Riverland has the lowest overnight temperatures across the state on Wednesday morning.

Renmark Airport dropped to -4.6C just before 6am, while temperatures in Pallamana hit a low of -3.2C and Loxton dipped to -2.9C.

In the Upper South East and Lower South East, temperatures in Padthaway dropped to -2.1C, while Coonawarra dropped to -1.9C and Keith West recorded -1.5C by 2.44am.

Snowtown had the lowest overnight temperatures in the Mid North, with temperatures hitting a low of 0.9C, while Whyalla experienced the lowest temperatures in the Eyre Peninsula, after temperatures dropped to 2.4C just before 6am.

In the east, locals in Yunta experienced below zero temperatures of -1.9C.

A Bureau of Meteorology spokesperson said a high pressure system over SA has caused colder than average weather conditions across the state, but there will be showers on Thursday before “dry conditions return Friday ahead of another weekend front”.

“A high pressure system over SA over the last couple of days resulted in light winds, combined with clear skies and a dry environment minimum temperatures have been colder than average,” the spokesperson said.

“The tail end of a cold front passed over the metropolitan area mid to late Tuesday morning.

“The Adelaide area will remain in a cooler, drier southerly airstream with another cool morning expected Wednesday with minimum temperatures of 3-5°C expected across the suburbs.”

Metropolitan and Hills regions also experienced low overnight temperatures on Wednesday.

Temperatures at Adelaide Airport and Strathalbyn dropped to 2.1C, while Mt Lofty recorded 2.5C just before 3.30am.

The Bureau said “winds will quickly turn northerly with a maximum temperatures of 17-18C” on Wednesday. It will be warmer on Wednesday night, with a minimum of 11C forecast in Adelaide.

“Another cold front will pass over the metropolitan area on Thursday,” the spokesperson said.

“Winds could be gusty at times in the north-westerly airstream ahead of the front. Showers on and off during the day on Thursday.”
