A property owner with more than 12 hectares of land could score a huge payday, with the government seeking an operations site for the Torrens to Darlington project.

A large parcel of land is needed for the industrial operations of the North-South Corridor project, with state government beginning its search for a suitable site.

A market call has been released seeking 12 hectares of land within 50km of the intersection of South Rd and Cross Rd to house its tunnel segment precast facility as part of the Torrens to Darlington (T2D) project.

The site will be used to manufacture precast concrete tunnel segments needed to line the two sets of twin tunnels. The location needs to allow 24/7 industrial operations and have heavy vehicle access routes to the T2D project site on South Rd.

It will be required for project use from mid-2024 to 2030.

Minister Tom Koutsantonis said the government was being proactive to ensure everything is ready for the start of main construction works.

“This market call for a site suitable for the tunnel segment precast facility is a significant step in the T2D Project, as this site will be vital in the construction of the two sets of twin tunnels,” he said.

“It’s estimated that more than 50,000 precast panel segments will be required to line the two sets of twin tunnels.”

Main construction works are planned to commence in 2025, with tunnelling works for the southern tunnel planned to start in 2026.

“We look forward to finding a suitable location for this site and we encourage property owners with suitable land to come forward and play a key role in this historic project,” Mr Koutsantonis said.

The entire T2D Project will be open to traffic in 2031.
