A teenage girl has been taken to hospital after a collision at an international pedal prix event in Murray Bridge overnight.

It is understood a 14-year-old girl, a student at Modbury High, was participating in a 24-hour race when emergency services were called out to extricate her from a vehicle at about 12:45am on Sunday.

An MFS spokeswoman said one appliance was called to the event, and took about 40 minutes to free her. She was supervised by medics the whole time.

The girl was taken to the Royal Adelaide Hospital via road with spinal injuries.

The event was held at the Sturt Reserve complex in Murray Bridge, and was the 38th running of the Australian International Pedal Prix – the biggest human powered vehicle race in the world.

It was the final round of the UniSA Australian HPV Super Series.
