A country vet has been temporarily banned from practising as a veterinary surgeon by the state’s civil tribunal after he was considered at “serious risk” of endangering animal safety.

Dr Geoffrey Hampton Warren, who practises as a vet in Jamestown and Peterborough, was suspended from practising by the South Australian Civil Administrative Tribunal on Thursday, pending the outcome of disciplinary proceedings.

The tribunal considered there was “serious risk that the health and safety of the public, and the health and safety of animals, was endangered”.

The Veterinary Surgeons Board of South Australia issued a statement on Thursday to inform the public of the registration status of Dr Warren, “in the interest of protecting animal health, safety and welfare”.

It follows the suspension of an Adelaide Hills vet deemed “medically unfit to practise” earlier this year.

Dr Catherine Helen Motter, who was practising from the Littlehampton Veterinary Clinic was suspended by the state’s vet board in March 2021.
