In a case of pitch invaders beware, racing greyhounds will be in action patrolling footy games during the coming Gather Round … or will they?
South Australia Police announced on social media on Monday it would be cracking down with dogs ready to “streak into action” to tackle unruly patrons, in a move following an incident during an AFL game at Adelaide Oval on March 22.
While the introduction of dogs as a deterrent to pitch invaders may be an effective and novel idea, it was just a playful April Fool’s prank from SAPOL.

It was among a number of joke posts across social media on April 1 from various businesses and brands around SA.
Farmers Union announced its iconic SA favourite drink would take cheese form with the Iced Coffee brie.
“It’s a @farmersunionicedcoffee brie or it’s nothin,” the brand posted on Facebook.
“Glam up your tea break with our newest cheese to hit the service station shelves.”
And another food item you didn’t know you needed was Golden North’s Fried Chicken Surprise, posted to Facebook with an image of the classic ice cream brand’s tub filled with wings.
“Introducing our latest flavour bomb with the creative talents of our friend and chef extraordinaire Chris Jarmer,” the brand wrote.
“It’s chicken … or is it?”
Not to be outdone, Spring Gully got in on the fun by announcing lamingtons with a twist.
“Don’t knock it until you try it,” Spring Gully wrote about their sweet mustard pickle flavoured lamingtons.
“This sweet and savoury flavour combination might be your unexpected new favourite!”
Whyalla’s Bayview Hotel also announced an innovative idea which would make waiting for a drink at the bar a thing of the past.
“After months of development and tireless testing, we are thrilled to announce that our Drone Beer Delivery System (DBD) is finally here!” the Bayview Hotel wrote.
“Simply look up and watch as your pints descend gracefully to your table! What could possibly go wrong.”
SA Country Fire Service also announced a five-drone fleet would be a “tiny but mighty” addition to crew battling blazes.
The drones, set to be put to the test at fires in the Adelaide Hills from next season, will extinguish flames one 250ml cup of water at a time.
Canines were a theme this April Fool’s Day with RSPCA and RAA making doggie declarations.
The automobile association introduced RAA Pawtrols, a new mobile doggie daycare service “who love life on the road”.
The service was tested on dogs Matilda and Reuben, who left “pawsitive” reviews after their owners left them in the care of RAA which provided “safe exploration at each roadside call-out” as they took the pups on the road.
And a dapper doggo went “from life on the streets, to shelter life at Lonsdale to the dog walks of Paris” as RSPCA shared “a happy tail like no other”.
A staffy named Jack made the big time after his owner Julie noticed his confident walk with “a catwalk strut and elegant turns”.
Jack has now been headlining fashion shows for big brands such as Ruff Lauren, Barc Jacobs and Vivienne Westwuff.
The Advertiser even fooled a few of its readers by reporting Adelaide Oval would temporarily remove its famous, heritage-listed scoreboard – claiming it was set to make way for Gather Round seating to cope with demand.
“Temporary stands (will be constructed) on The Hill, with 5000 last minute tickets on sale later this week.”
Hahndorf CFS proudly posted on Facebook about its new firefighting speed boat.
“The Hahndorf CFS Speed Boat will boost our capacity when responding to fires during the wet season,” they wrote.

New features of the Gumeracha attraction would include a bungee and slide from the top and an internal lift, the post claimed.
A giant squid was pictured escaping the South Australian Museum but pedestrians were told to remain “tenta-cool” as staff attempted to return it to its exhibit.
“We’ve had a small squid-cident on our front lawns this morning with our resident giant squid making a break for it,” the museum posted.
“Don’t panic and stay tenta-cool as we escort it back to its ink-losure in the depths of the East Wing.”
Meanwhile, a new culinary invention came out of Brighton Jetty Bakery with the unusual combination of the Easter favourite hot cross bun and a hotdog.
It probably won’t make it to any Bunning’s sausage sizzles any time soon.
A member of parliament also announced grand plans for the future of South Australia’s public transport system, with a solution seemingly straight from an old TV cartoon script.
In a reference to a 1993 episode of The Simpsons, MP Catherine Hutchesson posted that a monorail would be built to reduce congestion from Belair, down through Springfield and into the city.
“It’s definitely going to solve all of our congestion issues, with building starting in weeks,” Ms Hutchesson said.
