A former Comanchero bikie has pleaded guilty to bashing a good Samaritan who intervened in an argument between him and his girlfriend – leaving the victim with critical head injuries.

Danny Rapley, 44, has been in custody since his arrest on March 23, 2021 when he was found after an extensive two-day search by police.

During a directions hearing earlier this month Rapley pleaded guilty to recklessly causing the victim serious harm.

He will face court again in October for sentencing submissions.

At the time of the assault police said Rapley and his partner had been arguing in public is Salisbury North at 5.15pm on March 21.

A member of the public, a 49-year-old Paralowie man, stepped in to intervene in the argument.

Rapley assaulted the man, leaving him with critical injuries.

By his plea Rapley has acknowledged he punched the man and left him with serious injuries, but shows he did not intentionally cause that level of harm.

Under current legislation the definition of “serious harm” sets a high benchmark and connotes either life-threatening injuries at the time or permanent impairments.

After the assault Rapley and the woman rode away on a blue Suzuki motorbike.

Police launched a search for Rapley, warning people not to approach him if they saw him.

He was arrested two days later at a Kilburn address.

Following the culmination of Operation Ironside, which targeted the users of encrypted communication devices known as AN0M, Rapley was listed as an arrest linked to the app.

It is unknown whether he was a user, however it is believed evidence gathered from the phones, which were being monitored in real time by the Australian Federal Police, helped police locate Rapley.
