Dancing might not be allowed but that won’t stop the party when the Feast Festival opens with a carnival in Victoria Square tonight.
Drag queens playing oversized lawn games like giant chess, and internet sensation and circus performer Mister Firewood are just a taste of the entertainment feast on offer.
Mister Firewood, aka Chad Baker, had three million hits on an online video of him twirling a rainbow-coloured umbrella to a Covid-themed parody of the Bee Gees’ hit Stayin’ Alive.
Music duo Electric Fields will be headline act on the main stage, hosted by comedian Lori Bell.
Feast ambassador Charlotte Coulthard-Dare said the festival has been a platform for all the state’s LGBTQIA+ arts community.
“The Feast Festival is one of, if not the, most colourful times of the year for all to have some fun, and I’m sure this year’s celebration will be just as magical as ever,” Coulthard-Dare said.
Other shows in this year’s Feast Festival, which runs until November 28, include singer Libby O’Donovan’s 20 Years 20 Songs, Dr Gertrude Glossip’s Silver Jubilee Promenade, and the song cycle Close to the Knives by composer Dan Thorpe and Adelaide band Raccoon City.
