A local man has become the latest victim in a horror streak of fatal crashes in the state’s South East.
A single vehicle crashed at Grubbed Rd at Padthaway, a small wine region about 40km southeast from Bordertown just before 9pm Sunday.
Country Fire Service volunteers were first on the scene and provided CPR to the injured driver.
Paramedics took over but the local man, 41, died at the scene.
Major Crash Investigators examined the scene and shut off the road but it has since been reopened.
The man’s death was the 46th life lost on South Australian roads compared to 61 at the same time last year.
It’s the latest tragedy for the South East, following four fatal crashes in the region in July.
West Australian woman Clare Merriman, 38, died in a crash on Donovans Rd at Wye, near Mt Gambier on July 1.
A truck and car crashed, and an eight year old boy was rushed to hospital in a critical condition.
Meanwhile, a truck driver, 45, died after crashing into a ute at Mt Schank near Mt Gambier on July 19.
In another tragedy, a Naracoorte woman, 25, died after crashing her car causing it to catch fire on Caves Rd at Mt Light on July 23.
Days later, tributes were flowing for Lachlan Letton, 24, who died after crashing his motorbike on a private property at Western Flat, about 56km north of Naracoorte on July 31.
Mr Letton left behind his partner, Tilly Maye, and their one-year-old daughter, Maisy.
“He was the most loving and doting father to his little girl Maisy,” Ms Maye said.
