Samantha Policki has been remembered as an energetic young woman who lived every day like it was her last – brightening every room just by entering it.
The Magill woman, 21, died tragically in a road crash near Port Pirie last month. Emergency services rushed to the scene on the Port Augusta Highway, at the intersection of Warnertown Road on September 22 about 8pm, but were unable to save her.
At her funeral service today, her mother, Marina Vrey, remembered her daughter as an adventurous woman whose energy would go on to touch her and those she loved.
“Sammy took what she needs from this world … I believe that Sam is on to a new adventure now,” Ms Vrey said.
She told of travel stories with her daughter she would forever cherish.
“We miss you every day in every breath we take … in the mean time, I will hold on to the 21 years I was blessed to call you my daughter,” she said.
Ms Vrey said she would remember her daughter by always sharing her stories.
Ms Policki’s sister, Tash Policki, flew to Adelaide from Melbourne for the funeral, having to undertake two weeks of quarantine before being able to attend. Ms Policki remembered her sister, who she referred to as “Peanut”, as her best friend, and who always leaned on her while travelling long distances on family trips.
“I’ve always been told that Sam and I have a special bond that not many sisters have,” Tash said.
“I’m going to miss so many of her strange antics … like how she convinced a whole group of people her middle name was ‘Lettuce’.”
Her sister always followed her heart, and took it on many adventures, she said.
“She was a girl who knew how to live every day like it was her last … (and was) the kind of girl who brightened every room just by entering it,” she said.
Tash said she knew Ms Policki would be still be there to guide her through life.
