An Eyre Peninsula teacher has been rearrested and hit with further charges less than two weeks after being released on bail.
The teacher was arrested on Friday and charged with three counts of aggravated indecent assault.
He was refused police bail and will face the Whyalla Magistrates Court on July 24.
The new charges come after the teacher was initially arrested on July 13 and charged with aggravated indecent assault.
The alleged assaults were understood to be on a student at the school where the teacher worked, 7 News reported.
The teacher was initially bailed to face the Whyalla Magistrates Court on October 3.
It is unclear how many students were allegedly assaulted.
In a letter to parents after the initial arrest, the school said there were no concerns any other children at the school had been involved.
An Education Department spokeswoman said the teacher had been “directed away from the site and suspended”.
The spokeswoman said informing parents of the charge was in line with department policy.
“A letter has been provided to parents and caregivers … to advise them that on 13 July 2023 a teacher was arrested and charged with a child sex offence,” she said.
One couple said they had concerns their six-year-old daughter had been involved.
“I’ve never felt so much rage and sadness at one time,” the girl’s mother told 7 News.
“Some things that were said to us on the last day of school probably didn’t sit right with us and we sort of thought ‘well we’ll look into this a little bit further’.
“There’s no words to explain, really, how we’re feeling at the moment.
The six-year-old, who is in Year 1, is now involved in the police investigation, according to 7 News.
“Hurt for our child who’s just been my superhero going in there and doing what she’s doing right now,” the mother told 7 News.
“I’ve just lost all faith really.
“The school has failed, the Education Department has failed.”
Police said investigations were ongoing and urged anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or crimestopperssa.com.au.
