The alleged plot to kill Adelaide man Jonathon Hawtin – in which he was initially attacked with an axe and later survived an alleged suffocation attempt – is being pieced together by police with a third person arrested and charged with attempted murder.

Police arrested a 34-year-old woman at her Everard Park home on Saturday and have charged her with attempting to murder Mr Hawtin at the Hampstead Rehabilitation Centre in 2018.

It’s believed this woman is an ex-lover of Mr Hawtin’s former wife, Lisa Lines, 43, who will face attempted murder and conspiracy to murder charges after being extradited, following her arrest on the tiny island nation of Palau.

Ms Lines, who arrived under police export back in Adelaide on Friday night, is also being held at the watch house, awaiting an appearance in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Monday.

7News have reported Ms Lines met the woman on a dating app and she had moved into the Adelaide Hills home where Mr Hawtin was first attacked.

It is alleged that woman tried to kill Mr Hawtin as he lay paralysed in a rehabilitation bed after that assault.

Ms Lines’ former lover Zacharia Josef Bruckner, 36, was arrested in Queensland on November 15 to face charges of conspiracy to murder and attempted murder.

Some of the charges relate to an incident at Littlehampton in the Adelaide Hills in October 2017 in which Mr Hawtin – who was attacked with an axe to the back of the neck and head and became a tetraplegic as a result – was accused of shooting Mr Bruckner in the abdomen.

During Mr Bruckner’s extradition hearing in Brisbane, Queensland police prosecutor Eddie Fraser told the court Lines again attempted to murder Mr Hawtin by having a female friend try to smother him in January 2018 while he lay in hospital recovering from the axe attack.

“The female was stopped by hospital security guards outside Hawtin’s room before she fled the scene,” Mr Fraser alleged.

“Between December 2021 and the present day, Lines and Bruckner have conspired to murder Hawtin and Rohnda (Mr Hawtin’s mother) by the use of a hit man.”
