A 10-day search for a teenager who disappeared after he was swept off the rocks at Granite Island this month has ended without locating the boy.
In a statement, police said the search efforts concluded on Wednesday night after volunteers and emergency services were unable to find the 17-year-old.
Mehdi Habibi was last seen falling from the rocks on September 1, Father’s Day, and the horrific incident was captured on video.
Before he disappeared, he was seen struggling in the water.
Police said the 10-day effort involved daily searching on foot and in vehicles of Granite Island, searching the coastline from Victor Harbor to the Murray Mouth, vehicle patrols of Goolwa Beach and multiple flights using the police helicopter.
Water Operations Unit members have also assisted with the search and drones were used to inspect rock cavities.
Police have thanked volunteers and emergency services for their work throughout the 10-day operation.
Mehdi’s family is originally from Afghanistan but the teen had lived in Pakistan with his brother and mother before coming to Australia.
The trio recently arrived in Adelaide as refugees to live with the family patriarch and father, who has been in Australia since 2010.
