Meanwhile, the state’s first all-female Emergency Operations Group jet ski trainee crew are ready to patrol the busy waterways.
The SLSSA is more than doubling its Jet Ski team with 12 new female members from surf life saving clubs across the state.
The women have been selected from more than 5000 club members who will keep beachgoers safe this summer and respond in an emergency if required.
“These women … have excelled in their waterwork, launching/ retrieval training and intensive theory, required to operate the (jet skis),” said SLSSA Lifesaving and Emergency Operations officer Sonya Williamson.
“It has been great watching these highly skilled and passionate operators patrol our coastline as the warmer weather approaches and as we continue to recognise equality in emergency services,” she said.
