A Murray Bridge resident has received an alarming handwritten letter about his dog’s barking.
The anonymous letter levels extreme threats against the man’s dog, claiming it is being noisy late at night.
What initially began with a polite request to “please tell your dog to be quiet”, quickly turned sinister with two threats to kill the dog.
“If I have to listen to it barking I will kill it,” the anonymous sender wrote.
“Your choice, quiet or die.”
The dog owner defended himself on Facebook, suggesting a more diplomatic route the concerned neighbour could have taken.
“Sometimes the owner doesn’t know what’s going on and a simple door knock or letting them know is a pretty simple solution,” he wrote.
Murray Bridge locals agreed the letter was extreme, suggesting the dog owner take it to the police.
Another resident advised the dog owner “watch out for baits”, referring to the deplorable practice of deliberately poisoning dogs with baited toxic food.
Some suggested every dog barks for a reason and perhaps it was barking at intruders.
The dog owner said he would inquire around the neighbourhood to find the source of the letter.
“I’m heading off door knocking once I finish work tonight,” he said.
