A man is in hospital after being hit by a falling tree branch while cycling on a popular road in the Adelaide Hills on Sunday.

Emergency services were called to Norton Summit Rd at Teringie just after 11:30am after reports a cyclist had been injured.

SA Ambulance said the 65-year-old man suffered head trauma and was transported to the Royal Adelaide Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

It is believed a smaller branch, from a large gum tree that fell, hit the man on the head.

Norton Summit Rd was closed to traffic for a short period while emergency workers removed the tree.
