Adelaide City councillor Henry Davis has launched a satirical attack on Lord Mayor Jane Lomax-Smith and recent council policies in a video shared on his social media.
Dressed in a blonde wig and a floral women’s blouse, Cr Davis introduced himself as Jane Slomax-Smith, the “future slumlord of Adelaide”.
In the two minute 30 second video, Cr Davis offers “a few tips” to getting around the city including getting a chauffeur and a parking permit to avoid fines.
“My tip number one is first of all get yourself a Geeves like I have, a chauffeur driven car and it makes it very easy to get around the city,” he says.
“Off to Hutt Street for a quick coffee – hopefully the traders aren’t too angry at me for getting rid of all their car parks.
“After the failed referendum, I actually told staff quite contrary to council policy to lower the Aboriginal flag to half mast so that we could mourn a democratically held referendum.
“I think a couple of people got a little bit angry over it but who cares, I’m the Lord Mayor and I can do what I want.”
Tip number two, he says, is when ‘Geeves’ (an apparent misspelling of fictional valet Jeeves) can’t find a park, just catch an Uber “that’s paid for by the city”.
“I usually catch an Uber premium but that’s seven minutes away so I know what I’ll do, I’ll just catch a little taxi,” he says.
“Of course I don’t have to pay for it, that’s why they call them rate payers after all.”
His third tip for people who complain about the cost of UPark parking rates is to get a “little card”.
“And I’ve got a card that I can get in for free so I don’t know why everyone keeps complaining,” he says.
“It’s so easy to park in the city of Adelaide.”
The video then pans to a commercial parking permit as a way to avoid carparking fines.
“The sticker makes you exempt from carparking fees – it’s so easy to get around,” he says.
The final salvo is a call to “Employee Number 19” to report a person with a mullet possibly from the Northern Suburbs to keep them out of Adelaide.
“I just call them a number, there’s been so many,” he says.
“I don’t want anyone from the northern suburbs – what can we do about it?
“Thirty kilometre per hour speed zone? That would cause congestion across the entirety of Adelaide – that’s an excellent idea.
“But I don’t think anyone would go for it.
“Tell them it’s about safety? That’s an excellent idea – I love it.
“Let’s lower the speed limit to 30.”
The video ends with the words “Save the City of Adelaide” and a plug to George Mamalis’ YouTube channel.
Lord Mayor Lomax-Smith has since hit back at the video in a statement to The Advertiser.
“I love a bit of satire, but it works best if accompanied by facts and is in the hands of the talented,” she said.
Mr Davis was contacted for comment.
