A newsroom shake-up is quietly unfolding behind the scenes at Channel 10 Adelaide, as one of its key players prepares to trade bulletins for briefings.
After six years at the helm, the station’s executive editor is set to exit – but not for another network.
Instead, she’s headed to Canberra to take on a powerful new role in federal politics.
Gerda Jezuchowski, will leave next month to become director of communications and press secretary for Federal Minister Amanda Rishworth.
Her successor is no stranger to the newsroom either, having spent the past decade learning the ropes just metres from the boss’s desk.
Jezuchowski’s replacement is John O’Shea, Channel 10’s current senior producer in Adelaide and a decade-long veteran of the network.
He’s set to take over in August, bringing a seamless transition and steady hand to the local team.
Paramount Australia’s vice president of news Martin White paid tribute to Jezuchowski’s leadership.
“Gerda has been a wonderful leader in our Adelaide newsroom, and a big part of the continued success of our local Adelaide news service,” he said.
“She leaves with the best wishes of everyone around the network for the job she has done.”
White said the newsroom – and its strong 5pm bulletin, which is up 18 per cent year-on-year – would be in good hands under O’Shea.
“John is a great operator and a well-respected member of our team, and I’ve got every confidence he will do a terrific job of leading the SA team,” he said.
Jezuchowski, a former Annesley College student, cut her teeth in journalism in Port Pirie – working for the then Central Television as a newsreader – before stints at 7NEWS and local government media roles, ultimately rising to the top job at Channel 10 Adelaide.
But in the world of TV news, the camera never stops rolling – and the next chapter for Channel 10 Adelaide is just getting started.
It comes just weeks after The Advertiser revealed the network was expected to slash jobs in its Adelaide newsroom, as part of wider cost-cutting measures felt across the country.
Staff from the struggling network were reportedly told that two Adelaide production workers would be made redundant if they did not accept job offers in Sydney or Melbourne.
