Man serious after combustion heater explosion, while car set alight in suspected arson attack

A man suffered serious facial burns when a combustion heater exploded near Victor Harbor on Friday morning.

The victim in his 30s is understood to have been lighting a log in the heater with a flammable liquid when he suffered burns at a property at Back Valley about 7.30am Friday.

The medical helicopter had to be deployed, and the man was taken to the Royal Adelaide Hospital where he remains in a serious but stable condition.

His injuries are not considered life threatening.

Meanwhile, in other overnight news, a car torched in an underground city carpark was the work of arsonists, police believe.

The car was reported on fire in the basement of units in Norman St, Adelaide, about 2.30am Friday.

Police and fire crews were called to the scene and extinguished the Toyota Rav4.

The SUV was crammed with personal property inside and on the roof and hadn’t been driven for awhile as the owner was overseas, police said.

The cause of the blaze is unknown but it is being treated as suspicious.
