Car ploughs through Pooraka bird shop leaving staff shaken but no serious injuries

It was a miraculous escape for workers and animals as spectacular security footage captured a car slamming through a Pooraka store, narrowly missing birds and workers inside.

It’s a miracle no-one was hurt when a car ploughed through a bird shop at speed in Pooraka yesterday.

Spectacular security footage captured the moment a vehicle careered through the Golden Gem Birds, taking with it several bird cages and the cashier counter on Thursday.

Police were alerted to the crash about 1.30pm at the Main North Rd store.

Store owner Lyndon Goldsmith said he thought the crash was an explosion.

“I didn’t see the car, I was on the phone, and the next minute glass is coming past me, it just sounded like an explosion,” he told 7 News.

Mr Lyndon ended up underneath the store counter, while his worker Dani Sharples narrowly escaped injuries.

Ms Sharples said she was concerned for their resident blind parrot Lily, who copped the brunt of the crash.

“Our birds are our life so I don't want anything to happen to the birds in there.”

Miraculously, all birds escaped injury and humans only suffered minor injuries and shock.

The cause of the crash is unknown.

The shop will be closed for an unknown amount of time when repairs are under way.

Meanwhile, a driver has narrowly missed being struck by a freight train when his vehicle became stuck on a train crossing in the Adelaide Hills.

The man was attempting to do a U-turn at the train crossing on Jeffery St at Nairne about 9pm Thursday when the car became stuck.
