Management warned that the doubling of Burnside Village would be disruptive but shoppers have been confronted by brand turmoil.
Centre management explained the major changes that have confronted shoppers this month were due to work progressing on the Stage 6 redevelopment.
Closed, but with hopes of a return when the new centre opens in March 2025, are; Calvin Klein, Cibo, OPSM AESOP, Boost Juice, Mimco, Sass and Bide, and Shanghai Teahouse.
Cohen Group CEO Gregg Downer has apologised to shoppers and thanked them for their patience.
“Unfortunately, the store closures, which will be announced as they occur, are unavoidable to ensure that works on the expansion can be carried out safely,’’ he said.
“The timing of the closures will vary according to the construction works.
“It will also be necessary to close some of the village’s entry points, lifts and rest rooms.
“Changes will be communicated within the village as work is undertaken.”
But there is better news for fans of five other existing stores which, though relocated, have found new homes inside the current centre: BUPA, Bank SA, Harry Hartog, T2 and Village Pharmacy. Work on the new pharmacy, which is relocating to the old newsagency spot, is steaming ahead.
Mr Downer said a third category of stores was taking advantage of the works on the northern side of the village to upgrade their spaces.
“Over the coming months selected stores will close temporarily for refurbishment; Perri Cutten, Petite Madeline and Pasta Deli,’’ he said.
The centre’s Stage 6 will have 80 new stores and around double the footprint area.
Images and a fly-through released in May show three levels of additional retail space, including a premium mall, new dining area, entertainment spaces and health and wellbeing precinct.
There will also be more than 560 free undercover car parks and e-vehicle charging facilities.
