SA’s Easter forecast: A weekend of sun, fun and hot cross buns on the way with temperatures “much warmer” than last year

SA is set for a splash of summer weather across the state for the Easter long weekend, with “much warmer” temps than last year.

Hiding chocolate eggs in the garden this weekend may be trickier than last year with hot and sunny weather on its way for the Easter break.

Temperatures are expected to hit a top of 30C on Good Friday, climbing to 31C on Easter Saturday, compared to 21C and 18C last year respectively.

Sunday will be perfect barbecue weather at 29C, up from 18C last year, before dropping back down to 24C, up from 20C, with a possible shower or two on Monday.

Bureau senior meteorologist Simon Timcke said while this Easter would be warmer than last year, the warm weather isn’t unusual for this time of year.

“The later we get into April, the harder it is to get into those sorts of higher temperatures,” he said.

“So because Easter is earlier this year, it does give us a better chance of getting some warmer days.”

It could be melty for Easter eggs in the garden this weekend.

Temperatures in the high 20s are expected across much of the state this weekend, but rain forecasts have been confined to Adelaide and the Fleurieu Peninsula, along with stretches of the mid north including Port Augusta.

Bureau senior meteorologist Mark Anolak said the chance of rain this weekend was “low certainty, high confidence”.

“There are a few other systems at play that may drag that northerly cloud cover down to Adelaide,” Mr Anolak said.

“There is a slight risk of a shower, but not a huge amount, although that story might change on Wednesday so we will update if needed.”

As for Easter egg hunting, Mr Anolak advised it was “better to get it done earlier in the day” before the mercury creeps too high.
