A person has been found dead after a blaze erupted at a western suburbs home on Saturday morning, with Major Crime detectives now investigating.
Emergency services were called to Shannon St, Fulham Gardens, just before 8am after reports of smoke and flames coming from a house.
MFS crews worked to battle the blaze, but the home was completely destroyed by fire.
Rocco Salerno, 73, who has lived across the road from the torched property with his wife Jane said they were shocked to learn that somebody died at the home.
“There was fire coming out the front window of the house across the road,” he said before mentioning that he rang the fire bridge to report the fire.
“I was just surprised, something I hadn’t seen before,” he said.
“There (have) been problems at that house previously, so I thought something was wrong.
“We didn’t know someone died there.”
The couple, who have lived on that street for over 30 years, said they normally keep to themselves and had not interacted with the resident of the property.
“We didn’t really make contact with them,” Mr Salerno said.
“I remember seeing someone coming in and out.
“I thought maybe it was a student or someone and it could have been a good guy.
“But then a few days ago there was this yellow trailer that turned up and might have unloaded some furniture.”
Mr Salerno recalled a similar incident at the property, when another resident male resident aged “about 30 or 40 years old” passed away.
“Two or three years ago, someone else died there,” he said.
“I think they had the room heater on and then something happened to him.”
Another resident on the neighbouring property, who requested to remain anonymous, said the blaze started after she went to pilates, around 7am.
“Everything was fine, and then I came back and my husband had given our baby and our dog to the next door neighbor,
“My husband and the neighbor’s husband were trying to smash the windows to see if anyone was in there.
“They couldn’t find anyone. But, the whole house was up in flames.”
About five MFS crews remained on the quiet suburban street, while SA Police officers and detectives examined the scene until around 3.30pm.
Inside the home, SA Police fire cause investigators discovered the body of an unknown person.
The cause of the blaze is yet to be determined.
Western District and Major Crime Detectives, along with Crime Scene Investigators, are at the scene. Anyone with information that may assist are asked to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or online.
