Avista Glenelg’s $39m apartment project enters stage three of development

New images show what a $39m Glenelg apartment complex will look like inside, as the project marks a new milestone.

Construction of a new multimillion-dollar luxury apartment complex overlooking Glenelg beach is in its final stages.

Avista Glenelg’s $39m seven-storey project on Durham Street has entered the third stage after it was approved in 2019.

The building will feature 14 two- and three-bedroom apartments for retirees, with 56 other serviced apartments available for rent.

The complex is two streets back from Glenelg beach, and has a community centre featuring a kitchen/dining and entertaining area for residents and guests.

An existing local heritage-listed building has been incorporated in the complex, which will be restored and incorporated in the design. Ground floor retail will be available.

All residents have access to a gym, heated indoor pool and a spa with 24-hour personal emergency monitoring.

The apartments for rent are monitored by Karidis Corporation, which partnered with Cheesman Architects and Schiavello Construction for the project.

Karidis Corporation’s chief executive Peter Karidis said stage three took years of planning and negotiation with the state government to secure approval.

“The 14 retirement apartments will be for retirees desiring a modern apartment in a premium location within walking distance of bustling Jetty Rd and the beach,” Mr Karidis said.

He said so far 100 people had registered interest for the retirement apartments, which vary in size and will be located on levels four and five.

Avista Glenelg stage 3 was approved in 2019 and a final completion date is expected in 2024.

It comes after developers gave a green light to go ahead on a 16-storey tower on King William Street.

The 53-metre building at the corner of King William and Sturt streets was approved by the State Commission Assessment Panel on Wednesday.

Original plans raised concerns the building would demolish parts of the Kings Head Hotel but the new plans retain the state heritage-listed building.
