Australia Post announces closure of Campbelltown post office at the end of August this year

Australia Post has confirmed the closure of a branch in Adelaide’s northeast, with locals upset at losing the popular service.

A northeastern community has been left reeling after Australia Post announced it would be closing one of its popular stores before the year is out.

The Campbelltown post office, offering more than 35 listed services including finance, insurance, identity, document services, and parcel and mail, will come to a close on August 30.

Campbelltown resident Adam Knoll, 40, said the decision to close the popular store was “unreasonable”.

“This decision seems unreasonable; it seems Australia Post is claiming there is less foot traffic in their store but I don’t agree,” Mr Knoll said.

“I come to the Campbelltown location regularly and it’s never not busy because people need to collect their parcels, do their passports or their banking.

“I collect parcels from the PO box at least once a week.”

Mr Knoll said he was not convinced about the decreased demand and wanted to see “empirical evidence” the post office was not being used.

An Australia Post spokeswoman confirmed the closure of the Campbelltown store because of “decreased demand for its services”.

“Australia Post has made the difficult decision to close the Campbelltown post shop from August 30 this year, following a fall in customer visits of more than 20 per cent,” a spokeswoman said.

“The Campbelltown area is well-serviced, with five outlets within a 3km radius, including the Glynde Plaza post office just a five-minute bus ride away and open on Saturdays.

“All team members will be offered roles at surrounding post offices or closer to home.”
