A spike in online shopping in Adelaide’s south has prompted Australia Post to open a new outlet, just a few hundred metres from where one closed in 2023.
The new Warradale post office on Morphett Rd, opposite the Bunnings, will open in late July, focusing on parcel pick-up services.
Australia Post said online shopping within the Marion council area had jumped by 7 per cent – a year-on-year surge from 2024 – with women’s fashion identified as the top driver after recording a 46 per increase, last year alone.
It’s led to the new post office that will also offer everyday banking, bill payments, parcel and mail and retail merchandise and feature 24-hour parcel lockers, right on the edge of the residential area.
The old office within Westfield Marion closed in 2023 after receiving a vacate notice from the landlord, causing huge frustration within the local community.
The Advertiser understands Australia Post was monitoring the rise of parcels heading to the southern suburbs and decided to focus on a smaller post office that allowed people quick and easy access to their online shopping.
It will be owned and run by Australia Post.
Kate Foley, General Manager of Australia Post, said the opening came after an increase in customer demand and the population growth in Adelaide’s southern suburbs
“We’re delighted to have secured this location adjacent to Adelaide’s major retail and services
precinct, close to Warradale Station and within easy walking or driving distance to hundreds of homes within Warradale,” Ms Foley said.
Australian Post services at Warradale North, Park Holme, Hove, Brighton and Seacliff Park will all continue as normal for local customers.
“Efficiency and simplicity for our customers were front of mind in our design for this post office, which will support speedy parcel collection and lodgement for local residents and small
businesses,” Ms Foley said.
