Hotly anticipated plans for a massive skate park in Middleton have been revealed, but some locals have raised concerns the site is too close to a popular surf spot.

The concept designs were released last week by the Alexandrina Council, with Mill Tce at Middleton chosen as the site for the new park.

A skate park was one of the most popular ideas at a council engagement event in 2023, prompting a petition – signed by 350 people – and a deputation to council earlier this year.

In response, $20,000 was allocated to developing the draft plans for the park.

The designs, by award-winning skate park designers Convic, feature a beginner run, intermediate run and advanced bowl.

The project is currently unfunded and would require external grant funding and community support to come to fruition.

Over the weekend, Alexandrina Council shared the designs to their social media channels, prompting dozens of comments from residents.

While feedback online was largely positive, some have raised concerns the park’s location could impact local surf schools who use the adjacent car park.

“Love it but … More parking will be required, it already gets full with surfers add a bus and school surf lessons happening from one company or another and there are no car parks at all,” one resident wrote.

Community members are urged to leave community feedback on the project via the council’s website, ahead of consultation closing at 5pm on Friday, August 9.

Earlier this year, a multimillion-dollar sports park at Aldinga officially opened – with a $1.3m skate park at the site expected to be open to the public by the end of December.
