ADELAIDE has been ranked the world’s fifth most liveable city — yet again.
Adelaide tied with Calgary in Canada for fifth in the Economist Intelligence Unit’s liveability index for 2016, released on Thursday morning. It’s the fifth year in a row Adelaide has finished fifth in the ranking.
Of course, we don’t need an economics report to confirm Adelaide is a great place to live.

Sydney has been kicked out of the top 10, dropping from seventh to 11th “owing to a heightened perceived threat of terrorism”.
Melbourne was named the most liveable city for the sixth year running, just ahead of Austria’s Vienna and Canada’s Toronto and Vancouver.
The Victorian capital had perfect scores for healthcare, education and infrastructure.
For the index, 140 cities around the world were rated on stability, healthcare, culture and environment, education and infrastructure.
Damascus in Syria scored the lowest with just 30.2 out of 100 while the capital cities of Libya, Nigeria, Bangladesh and Papua New Guinea weren’t much better.
The Economist Intelligence Unit says the index is helpful for global businesses to determine how much extra they pay employees moving between cities.
For example, it suggests bumping allowances by 20 per cent if employees have to move from Melbourne to PNG’s Port Moresby.
