Adelaide named world’s fifth most liveable city

ADELAIDE has been listed in the top five of the world’s most liveable cities... again. Take that, Sydney.
Adelaide was listed behind Melbourne, Vienna, Vancouver and Toronto.
The top five order is the same as in the past two years.
Australian cities made up four of the top 10 cities with Sydney coming seventh and Perth jumping one place to eighth. Brisbane was ranked 18th.
The annual Liveability Ranking from the Economist Intelligence Unit assesses 140 cities in 30 factors across five categories: stability, healthcare, culture and environment, education and infrastructure.

But there are some changes in the rankings, reflecting conflict, suffering and improvement in other cities around the world.
The report says the best scoring cities tend to be mid-sized cities in wealthier countries with a relatively low population density.
“Seven of the top 10 scoring cities are in Australia and Canada, with population densities of 2.88 and 3.40 people per sq km respectively,” it says.
Damascus in Syria, Kiev in Ukraine and Tripoli and Libya have suffered major declines in the their scores, reflecting instability in these countries.
The global average liveability score has fallen by one percentage point over the past five years. Weakening stability has been a key factor in driving this decrease.
The average global stability score has fallen by 2.2 percentage points in that time frame.
Harare in Zimbabwe showed the largest improvement.
