A 54-year-old man from the southern suburbs will face court after he was arrested by detectives on Friday for sexually exploiting a child.

Detectives from the Special Crime Investigation Section arrested the man and he has been charged with three counts of procuring a child for sexual activity, two counts of gross indecency, indecent assault and maintaining an unlawful relationship with a child.

He was refused police bail and is expected to appear in the Christies Beach Magistrates Court later on Friday.

It comes after an Adelaide man will face court after being arrested for allegedly possessing child exploitation material.

Police said on Thursday Special Crime Investigation Section detectives arrested a 59-year-old Adelaide man and charged him with possessing child material.

He was released on police bail to appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on September 18.

On June 29, a former country police officer was reportedly arrested and charged with child sex offences.

The two arrests are not linked anyway.

The former officer, a Murraylands man, was arrested for allegedly communicating to make a child amenable to sexual activity.

In a statement on June 29, police said Special Crimes Investigation Section detectives arrested a 71-year-old Murraylands man.

The former officer is heavily involved in a number of local sporting organisations, 7NEWS reported.

He was bailed to face Berri Magistrates Court on August 7.
