Two 16-year-olds carrying knives were arrested this morning after allegedly smashing into TSG Tobacco Station at Glenelg - sending two police officers to hospital during a brawl.
Just before midnight on Saturday, December 30, police were called to the business on Jetty Rd after locals reported an alarm going off.
Witnesses reported seeing a young person smash into the shopfront and steal a number of goods before fleeing the scene with another person.
Police arrived shortly after the break-in and found a 16-year-old boy who then assaulted two officers during his arrest, according to SA Police.
When officers eventually detained and searched him, they allegedly found a large knife concealed under his clothing.
Following the altercation, a 16-year-old girl believed to be his co-offender returned to the crime scene and was also arrested.
Putting up a fight, she allegedly attacked four officers by kicking and biting them, forcing two to attend hospital with injuries from the assault.
Police said they also found a knife and stolen goods hidden in her clothing.
CCTV footage obtained by The Advertiser shows a young male with a black hooded jumper walking past the storefront before he stops and pulls his hood over his head.
He then starts to kick his way through the front glass door and makes his way into the shop and immediately goes behind the counter where he starts taking cigarette packets out of the cupboard.
With his hands full of cigarette packets, he exits the store, removing the glass door completely.
The footage then shows multiple police officers running down Jetty Rd towards the oceanside to try and apprehend the suspect.
Following his arrest, a 16-year-old girl believed to be the boy’s girlfriend, appears in the footage and starts speaking to police before she is taken across the road. At some point she allegedly assaults a female police officer.
Soon after a police paddy wagon arrives and she is arrested and taken away.
However, the vehicle returns a few minutes later and CCTV footage shows the young woman being taken out of the paddy wagon and arrested on the ground by multiple officers.
The owner of the shop, who did not want to be named, said there were usually teens “hanging around” on Jetty Rd in the early hours of the morning.
Later, they found further stolen items at a unit on Colley Terrace.
The teenage pair from the Adelaide Hills were charged with a raft of offences including aggravated serious criminal trespass, theft, carrying an offensive weapon, and assaulting emergency workers.
They have been bailed to attend Adelaide Youth Court on February 22 and the two injured police officers have since been discharged from hospital.
