Fears of a clash between the 2024 Adelaide Motorsport Festival and the closing stages of the Adelaide Festival and Fringe have been raised at a City Council meeting.
The Motorsport Festival put tickets on sale this week for the March 15-17 event in Victoria Park, but this clashes with the 2024 Adelaide Fringe, which ends on March 17, and the Adelaide Festival which ends on the same day.
On Tuesday night Greens Councillor Keiran Snape questioned the timing, recalling the clash between the 2012 Clipsal 500 and the Festival’s Ennio Morricone concert at Elder Park.
On Tuesday night he successfully moved that the council try to resolve the clash to make sure the furore wasn’t repeated.
“In 2012 the noise intruded on the concert,’’ he said.
“Here we are with an embarrassing repetition of this in 2024.”
Cr Snape said the Motorsport event in 2024 had the potential to disrupt many more events and would be far closer, as the two arts festivals are partly in the east end of the city.
“We have to act fast to avoid the train wreck that might happen.”
