ONE half of ABC Adelaide’s breakfast radio duo is calling it quits.
Matthew Abraham unexpectedly announced during his Breakfast program with David Bevan on Friday morning that he would be leaving the national broadcaster next week.
The duo has co-presented on ABC Radio Adelaide since 2002, first on the Morning program before switching over to Breakfast radio in 2011.
“This has been a really hard decision,” Abraham said.
“In stepping away from the microphone, I’m stepping away from radio, a medium I love with all my heart and soul.
“I’m also leaving a team who are not just the most formidable outfit in the business, but who are my good friends.”
He said he will resume work after taking a break.
“I’m going to have a long rest. I’m going to sleep and fish and write, in that order,” Abraham told listeners.
“I’ve always been a journalist in my working life and I plan to continue somehow.”
Abraham and Bevan have won their timeslot for the past 13 radio surveys. However, in the most recent survey, FIVEaa’s David Penberthy and Will Goodings closed to within 0.6 share points.
David Bevan will continue on Breakfast.
Following the announcement, listeners, politicians and fellow journalists took to social media to express their thanks and best wishes.
Good luck @KevCorduroy. You will be a huge loss to #SouthAustralia journalism. Happy fishing mate. https://t.co/Tt7pqKMbQE
