A security breach that caused delays for hundreds of passengers at Adelaide Airport on Sunday night has been attributed to human error.
Delays hit the airport from about 6.30pm on Sunday after a passenger passed through the main security point “without adequate screening”.
About a dozen flights were delayed for around 30 minutes but no passengers missed their flights.
Adelaide Airport managing director Brenton Cox said on Monday morning the breach was a result of human error, exacerbated by an unfortunate series of events.
“In the end it turned out that everyone had been screened properly, there just weren’t eyeballs on the metal detector when someone went through,” he said on FIVEAA.
“It was pure human error ... and it certainly affected hundreds of people.”
Mr Cox said there were then some difficulties tracking the person whose passage was missed.
“It took a bit longer to resolve because the person changed clothing very quickly after going through security,” he said.
Mr Cox stressed that the person had not done anything wrong.
Delays at security cleared on Sunday night and flights at the airport are running to schedule on Monday morning.
