Work on the second stage of the Golden Grove Rd project is starting this week, creating about 70 jobs a year.

$20 million Golden Grove Rd upgrade

Work on the second stage of the Golden Grove Rd Upgrade will begin this week after the State Government announced it will fund the project in its upcoming budget.

A total of $30 million will go towards the project as well as intersection upgrades along the O-Bahn track.

The second stage, which focuses on the area between Park Lake Drive and Kunzea Way, will create 70 full-time equivalent jobs per year.

It involves an upgrade to the Golden Grove Rd/The Grove Way/Yatala Vale Rd intersection, on-road bike lanes, road resurfacing, kerb and gutter improvements and new road lighting.

New footpaths, pedestrian crossings and indented bus bays are also included in the project.

The project is expected to be completed by the end of 2021.

Stage one, worth $20 million, involved upgrades between One Tree Hill Rd and Kunzea Way and created 65 full-time equivalent jobs.

Premier Steven Marshall said “creating jobs, backing local business and building what matters is a key focus in this year’s budget”.

“The people of the north-east have been crying out for a solution to the Golden Grove Rd for years and it’s fantastic to be delivering what the local community needs,” he said.

Transport and Infrastructure Minister Corey Wingard said the project was part of the Government’s “commitment to roll out job-creating projects that are shovel ready”.

“Not only will stage two of this project improve traffic flow helping motorists get home faster and safer it’s also offering job security for dozens of South Australians,” he said.

Under the $30 million funding package, intersections along the O-Bahn route will also be upgraded to allow faster access from Tea Tree Plaza to Golden Grove.

Design work for improvements to the Grenfell Rd/Golden Grove Rd, Milne Rd/Golden Grove Rd and North East Rd/Modbury Ave/Golden Grove Rd intersections have already started.

Construction work will begin in early 2022.
