$20 million Golden Grove Rd upgrade

Construction work on a $20 million upgrade to Golden Grove Rd in Adelaide’s northeast will begin within months.

The project is due to be approved by State Parliament’s Public Works Committee next week.

The upgrade was a key part of the election campaign by the Liberals, which won the newly created seat of King with the narrowest victory of 357 votes.

Features include:

A NEW roundabout at the intersection of Hancock Rd and Golden Grove Rd;

UPGRADING the intersection of Yatala Vale Rd, The Grove Way and Golden Grove Rd with new turning lanes;

RIGHT turn lanes at Ross Rd, Satsuma Cres, Greenwith Rd, John Rd, Einstein Dve, Kunzea Way and Highgrove Rd;

THIRTEEN indented bus stops and six new pedestrian crossings;

NEW footpath for the full length of project’s western side;

ON-ROAD bike lanes on both sides of Golden Grove Rd, and

NEW kerbing and guttering on both sides to improve drainage.

Transport Minister Stephan Knoll said the upgrade between Park Lake Dve and One Tree Hill Rd was aimed at improving safety and traffic flow.

Mr Knoll said the project would be delivered in two stages, starting with One Tree Hill Rd to the signalised intersection of Golden Grove Rd with The Grove Way and Yatala Vale Rd.

Stage two from Park Lake Dve to south of the signalised intersection of Golden Grove Rd, The Grove Way and Yatala Vale Rd would be completed once the details of the North East Public Transport Study were known, he said.

The study is being conducted by the Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure (DPTI) and several private engineering companies to determine future transport needs in the northeast.

It includes a feasibility study into whether the O-Bahn should be extended from Tea Tree Plaza to Golden Grove through a dedicated off-road corridor and shared road space.

Mr Knoll said the Golden Grove Rd upgrade would help ease traffic congestion as well as improve safety for motorists, cyclists and pedestrians.

“The upgrade will include the construction of a roundabout at the junction of Golden Grove Road and Hancock Road, additional traffic lanes and sheltered right-hand turn lanes at various points, as well as improved pedestrian and cycling facilities,” he said.

“A staged approach is being undertaken to ensure that redundant infrastructure is avoided as much as practically possible, as a result of the proposed future extension of the O-Bahn, and whilst the North East Public Transport Study is being undertaken.”

Liberal MP for King Paula Luethen said northeast residents had been waiting 20 years for action to fix Golden Grove Rd.

“The Marshall Government has listened to the feelings of local residents and has delivered for our community,” she said.

Early works including service relocations are expected to start in the next few months.

Main construction works will start later this year with expected completion in June next year.
