A young northern suburbs man has become the state’s first victim of a fatal motorcycle crash this year. Meanwhile, an alleged drink driver was arrested after crashing in the CBD.

A young man who crashed in Port Pirie West has become the first victim of a fatal motorcycle smash this year.

The alarm was raised when a Honda motorcycle crashed into a fence on The Terrace about 6.30pm Wednesday.

The rider, a Globe Derby Park man, 22, died at the scene,

The Terrace was closed between Frederick Rd and Clara St on Wednesday night while Major Crash Investigators examined the scene.

His death is the fifth life lost on SA roads so far this year, compared to seven at the same time last year.

It follows a fatal crash on the Dukes Highway in Brimbago, in the state’s South East on Saturday.

A car crashed into a truck and a Pasadena man, 33, died at the scene.

Meanwhile, an alleged drink driver has been arrested after crashing and attempting to flee in Adelaide’s CBD.

The car crashed into a Stobie pole in Whitmore Square just before 10pm Wednesday and witnesses reported seeing the driver running from the vehicle.

Police located the driver, a Whyalla Stuart man, 43, and arrested him.

He was blood tested and allegedly returned a reading of 0.160, more than three times the legal limit.

He was charged with drink driving, driving without due care, driving unlicensed and failing to stop at the scene of a crash.

He was bailed to appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court in March and his vehicle was impounded.
