A house fire suspected to have been sparked by a burner left unattended has seen a 16-year-old-boy risk his life to save the occupants.
The blaze broke out on Clayson Road in Salisbury East on Sunday afternoon.
Neighbours first reported the fire claiming they saw “big, black plumes of smoke” billowing from the roof.
16-year-old Mohammed Hashimi and his father acted immediately and without hesitation put their lives on the line to help out their neighbours.
“We ran over to the house and the couches were on fire, we thought it was just the couches,” Mr Hashimi told 7News.
“We ran to the backyard, opened one of the doors and the smoke got me. My hair got burnt. “We tried to call out to the neighbours as we thought people were in there, as both their cars were there. We thought they could at least follow our voices, but then the whole roof caved in.
“We thought they were gone.”
The residents weren’t home, but their six-year-old pet dog Arlo was caught up in the blaze and was found hiding under a bed. The lucky-to-be-alive pup was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation and will attend the local vet for a check up.
One firefighter was treated at the scene and fire investigators are at the scene, but no cause has been determined.
