SA Best leader Nick Xenophon runs with the bulls in new election ad

THERE’S no Bollywood dancing or lame rapping this time — but there is low-budget greenscreen action, matador music and dodgy puns ... yes, Nick Xenophon has released another memorable campaign ad.

SA Best Leader Nick Xenophon is planning a final election stunt based around another corny ad that features him running from the “bull” he says is being spouted in attack campaigns by unions and hoteliers.

Featuring superimposed images of Mr Xenophon in the famous Spanish Running of the Bulls festival, and set to matador music, the social media ad adopts a humorous tone similar to the infamous SA Best campaign jingle.

“Labor, Liberal, unions and pokies operators are all trying to run me down with a lot of bull,” a panting Mr Xenophon declares as he “outruns” the bulls in the opening scene.

“But I’m fighting the bull so you don’t get taken for a ride.”

Making his political argument, Mr Xenophon brands “the greatest load of bull(beep)” is Labor’s claim that he cut $210 million from education in his former role as a Senator.

A giant bull’s head is then “stamped” on the claim, with Mr Xenophon then arguing his team pumped in an extra $426 million for South Australian schools, with the approval of the architect of education reform, David Gonski.

Mr Xenophon also counters hoteliers’ arguments that his anti-pokies policies will cost jobs, arguing they would save lives and boost employment.

He also rejects union claims he backed pension cuts and lampoons Labor and Liberal arguments he is backing either side.

An election advertising blackout on TV and radio started at 12am today so SA Best is paying to advertise on social media channels.

Mr Xenophon said he was planning a stunt on Friday to draw attention to the campaign.

“I’m running out of animals to perform stunts with but hopefully it will be both amusing but, most importantly, thought-provoking,” he said.

“I might not take myself too seriously but I take very seriously how the parliament of this state should be run.”

Mr Xenophon has been bolstered by a victory in last night’s Advertiser /Sky News People’s Forum, where 30 of 100 undecided voters backed him over Premier Jay Weatherill and Opposition Leader Steven Marshall.

The state Electoral Commissioner has also upheld an SA Best complaint about a letter distributed by the Lonsdale Hotel, complaining about SA Best’s “anti-pub” policy.

Electoral Commissioner Mick Sherry determined the letter breached the Electoral Act because it was misleading and ordered a retraction.
