Darling Downs housing crisis to see major reprieve

The Miles government has made a major announcement ahead of the upcoming Budget, which is set to bring reprieve for families and individuals across the southwest affected by the national housing crisis. Full details here.

Queensland government to slash red tape with fast-tracked housing program

The state government has secured critical funds to deliver its major housing plan, which will see a major benefit for the wider Darling Downs community.

The sheer impact of the housing crisis has left a number of southwest Queensland families and individuals struggling to find secure and affordable accommodation.

As part of the upcoming state Budget, the Miles Government has dedicated $2.8bn towards its ‘Homes for Queenslanders’ plan which will support up to 600 new modular homes.

In partnership with the private sector, the modular homes are expected to be underway by the end of 2024.

Bolstering the housing sector, the additional 600 modular homes will be sent to regional and remote locations across the state including Bundaberg, Innisfail, Mackay, Warwick and other areas.

Modular homes are built in a factory and are then delivered to site, where they are set up in less time than a traditional build getting people out of temporary accommodation quicker.

Additional housing initiatives across the state will see the inclusion of specialist support services.

Premier Steven Miles said his first budget is aimed at improving the housing sector, including providing more jobs for trades, supporting renters and homelessness organisations.

“It’s our plan that’s delivering one million more Homes for Queenslanders,” Mr Miles said.

“My first budget as Premier of the state will help get more homes up off the ground, put more tradies on the tools, provide support for renters and our hardworking homelessness organisations.

“I know that to build the homes Queensland needs, we need to do things differently, which is why QBuild and businesses across the state will be enlisted to rollout more modular homes.”
